Where we began.....

Florence Nightingale (1873) is considered the founder of modern nursing and the first nursing theorist.

In 1860 she founded the Nightingale School and Home for training nurses at St. Thomas' Hospital in London.

From Florence's humble beginnings, Nursing has evolved to become a profession that not only requires a strong math and science based curriculum, but also blends the ability to perform complex technical skills, to critically think to plan appropriate and safe nursing care and to do so in an ethical and compassionate manner.

It is a profession whose primary purpose is to serve the public, by helping those in need, and we need you to continue our legacy.

The nation and our local community is currently experiencing a critical nursing shortage.  Managed care and increased professional options for females has had an impact on the number of individuals choosing to enter nursing. We are proud to have high-quality, stable, nursing programs.

I hope you will continue to pursue your interest in nursing and that you may one day enter as one of our colleagues.

Gulf Coast Community College students have a pregnant mannequin of their very own. Nursing students at Gulf Coast work with Noelle, a mannequin that simulates a late term pregnancy. Students can check the “baby’s” heartbeat, the mother’s heartbeat and deliver the infant during their classes.   Noelle, a $10,500 piece of plastic and electronics, was one of the first things health science officials purchased after they received a $301,688 grant through Florida’s Department of Education.
